Rooibos tea is a naturally Caffeine-Free red tea from South Africa, and this box holds 4 pre-measured loose leaf sachets, 1 sachet per 8 ounce cup. It is the cup for guests who are skipping caffeine, and for anyone who wants tea at 9pm and sleep at 10.

This is the blend I pour when a party is winding down. It is the same loose leaf tea I serve at my tea parties, measured into sachets so there is nothing to weigh or strain.

Rooibos tastes sweet on its own, closer to vanilla and honey than to anything grassy. It is low in tannins, so it does not go bitter the way a forgotten black tea does.

Drop a sachet in your cup, add hot water, and steep 5 to 7 minutes. Longer is fine, it is a forgiving tea. It takes milk well, and it is good iced.

The details

  • 4 sachets per box. 1 sachet per 8 ounce cup, pre-measured loose leaf, so no teapot and no infuser.
  • Caffeine-Free. Rooibos comes from a South African red bush, not from the tea plant, so there is no caffeine in it to begin with.
  • Steep 5 to 7 minutes. Leaving it longer will not turn it bitter. Good hot, with milk, or iced.
  • Packed in Cibolo, Texas. Processing time is 2 to 4 days before your order ships.
  • Gift wrapping can be added at checkout.

Rooibos is one of the 17 flavours you can choose in Simple Pleasures, my tea party box for one. It sits beside Peppermint on the Herbal and Caffeine-Free Teas shelf, and I wrote about what to pour for guests and kids in Caffeine-Free Teas for Guests, Kids, and Late Nights.

This is the one I pour when I want the ritual without the caffeine. Just add hot water.

Questions people ask

Does rooibos tea have caffeine?

No. Rooibos is naturally Caffeine-Free because it comes from a South African red bush, not from the tea plant, so there is nothing to steep out. That is what makes it an easy pour late in the evening and for guests and kids who are skipping caffeine.

What does rooibos tea taste like?

Naturally sweet, smooth, and a little earthy, closer to vanilla and honey than to anything grassy. It is low in tannins, so it does not go bitter or dry out your mouth the way an over-steeped black tea can. Most people drink it without sugar.

How many cups of tea are in a box?

4. Each box holds 4 loose leaf sachets, and 1 sachet makes an 8 ounce cup. Brewing instructions come in the box. If you want more than 4 cups, add a second box, or choose Rooibos as one of your 3 flavours in a Simple Pleasures gift box.

Can I drink rooibos with milk or over ice?

Yes to both. Rooibos is naturally sweet and not astringent, so it takes a splash of milk well and stands in for a milky black tea at night. For iced tea, steep it strong, let it cool, then pour it over ice with a slice of lemon.

Do I need a teapot or an infuser?

No. Every sachet is pre-measured loose leaf tea, so you drop one in your cup, add hot water, and steep 5 to 7 minutes. Leave it longer if you get distracted. Rooibos is forgiving and will not turn bitter on you.
